Kelli's Perfect Stay-cation in NYC

One of my favorite things about living so close to New York City is the ability to visit one of the most exciting cities on our planet. This past week, my wife and I decided to take a “stay-cation” in New York City.

When we do these mini NYC vacations, we try to pick a different area of to explore each time. This time we opted for the very trendy Meatpacking district. The weather looked beautiful so it seemed like a perfect time to be outside and explore this special neighborhood.

We checked into the lovely Ganesvoort Meatpacking Hotel. Our room was contemporary but luxurious. A Nespresso machine, soft robes and cute flip flop slippers greeted us upon arrival. Gatsby the Goose, the signature of the Gansevoort, was waiting on our plus bed to join us on our adventures. Once we unpacked, we started our day with a craft cocktail and appetizer up at the rooftop bar by the pool.

Prior to dinner, we stopped at one of our favorite bars, Wilfie & Nell for a quick drink, then ventured over to our favorite downtown seafood spot, Mary’s Fish Camp. Fresh lobster, oysters, shrimp and fish are the specialty of this tiny little no-reservations spot. I strongly suggest getting there at opening unless you are up for a nice wait in line for a table. It is worth the wait. We closed out the evening at Blenheim Farm to Table Restaurant. The restaurant is a bit pricey for us, but we love their craft cocktails and warm environment.

The next day we wanted to spend the day exploring the High Line. The High Line is a public park built on a historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side. It runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street, between 10th and 12th Avenues. It has local artists, coffee shops, crafty retailers, and sculptures along the path. On a beautiful day, it is the perfect place for a stroll. After working up an appetite following our HighLine walk, we stopped for lunch at the Standard Grill located in the Standard Hotel. We sat outside which is always great for people watching! Our afternoon was spent exploring the Chelsea Market with all of the epicurean delights to eat there or to take home. Our evening was complete with a craft cocktail and tapas at the Tippler Bar. The Tippler is so NYC and prides itself on being discreet and underground. I highly recommend getting there early enough to grab a seat and enjoy the people watching!

The next morning before we checked out to head home, we grabbed an amazing bloody mary at The Chester, the hip restaurant off the lobby of the Gansevoort Hotel. Complete with a purple velvet pool table, this cozy little spot is also perfect for some people watching. You never know who could walk by the windows in the Meatpacking District!
